The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority, Mr. Yankuba Darboe, along with his delegation from the GRA, joined the celebration of World No Tobacco Day at the Westfield Monument in Kanifing Municipality on August 20, 2024. The theme for this year’s event focused on “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference.”
During the event, Mr. Darboe was honored with a prestigious award from the World Health Organization (WHO) for his remarkable contributions to tobacco control in The Gambia. The award was presented by Dr. Gassama, representing the Head of WHO in The Gambia.
Taking the podium, Mr. Darboe expressed his deep gratitude to WHO for recognizing the collective efforts in combating tobacco use across the country. He emphasized that this honor extends beyond himself, acknowledging the crucial roles played by the Government of The Gambia, healthcare professionals, civil society, and all individuals involved in this important cause.
Mr. Darboe also highlighted the innovative tax policies introduced by the Government to further regulate the importation of tobacco in The Gambia, reinforcing the nation's ongoing commitment to protecting public health.
