Today, October 3rd, 2024, the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) held a key event at the Senegambia Beach Hotel: the Validation Workshop for its 5th Corporate Strategic Plan (CSP). This plan lays out GRA’s strategic vision for the next five years, spanning 2025 to 2029, with a key emphasis on Digital Transformation across Domestic Tax, Customs, and Support Services. The primary goal is to enhance revenue mobilization in support of national development.
The workshop was opened by Commissioner General Mr. Yankuba Darboe, who expressed his appreciation to GRA’s Management and partners for their crucial contributions in shaping the CSP. He extended special thanks to Mr. Brightwell Nkambule, an IMF Consultant and Commissioner General of Eswatini Revenue Services, for his invaluable technical assistance in the development of the CSP and for his efforts in strengthening the capacities of GRA staff. Mr. Darboe highlighted the importance of collaboration, urging all participants to provide feedback and suggestions to help refine the plan for a successful implementation.
GRA Board Chair, Madam Lucy Fye, also addressed the workshop, emphasizing the Board’s commitment to closely monitor the key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to the CSP. She highlighted that these KPIs are critical in ensuring the goals and objectives outlined in the plan are effectively achieved.
A central focus of the workshop was stakeholder engagement, with representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Public Service, Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GiEPA), the Financial Reporting Oversight Board, the Tony Blair Institute, and the Ministry of Digital Economy offering their insights and recommendations. Their contributions played a vital role in shaping a forward-looking strategy that aligns with the country’s broader economic objectives.
In closing, Mr. Darboe encouraged all stakeholders, both national and international, to collaborate with the GRA in bringing this ambitious vision to life. He emphasized the role of digital transformation in fostering economic growth through enhanced tax systems and trade facilitation, ultimately revolutionizing revenue collection for national development.
