The Gambia Revenue Authority’s Customs Manager, Mr. Ansumana Bojang, is currently in Antananarivo, Madagascar, representing the Regional Director of RILO–West Africa at the SAMA II debriefing a major customs-led operation against wildlife trafficking.
The operation, which involved 32 countries, targeted over 50% of key endangered species. Mr. Bojang emphasized that the illegal wildlife trade, estimated at $7–23 billion annually, not only fuels organized crime but also threatens biodiversity, disrupts tourism, and undermines economic growth and foreign currency inflows.
